Blood

Can I complete a blood test on a child?

While we allow children from the age of 2 and above for blood allergy and intolerance testing, there is evidence that allergies are not fully developed until the age of 7. Please check with a medical professional before purchasing.

Will medication affect my test results in any way?
There are a few types of medication that may stop your test from being accurate. Immune suppressant medications can also affect the results of the testing, we advise that you check with our team prior to testing regarding medications. Antihistamines have been shown to affect results; we advise stopping antihistamine use for 3-5 days before taking your sample; however, we would recommend seeking advice from a medical professional before changing any medication.
Can you test for coeliac disease?
We do not test for coeliac disease; however, we can test for a gluten intolerance on selected tests; please look for this in the list of items tested on the products. To test for coeliac disease, you should speak to a medical professional. The blood testing usually carried out is total IgA and IgA tissue transglutaminase antibody (tTG).
What's the best blood test for me?
We have a range of blood tests for you to choose from; we have Intolerance (IgG4) ELISA testing because we are investigating delayed symptoms that could be associated with food intolerances. You can find more about the IgG4 testing science on the About Us pages on our site. We also have IgE ELISA food and non-food allergy testing. IgE antibodies are involved in Type I allergies and can cause rapid type immune reactions, with symptoms occurring within a few minutes up to two hours after eating a specific food. You can find more about the IgE testing science on the About Us pages on our site. We also have a range of combinations for the ultimate intolerance and allergy testing
Does it hurt to take a blood test?
We provide you with easy-to-use lancets designed to give you a tiny prick on the finger to start the blood flow. It’s precisely the same as a pinprick and, if administered correctly following our provided instructions and tips, will not hurt.

Hair

Can I complete a hair test on a child?
Children can complete a hair sensitivity test once they reach five years old due to their immune system changes and the importance of eating a varied diet. Infants have not yet built up their tolerance levels to items, highlighting false positives in their test results. However, it is up to the parents or guardians if they would still like to proceed knowing this.
How do I take a hair sample?
The safest way to take a hair sample is to ask someone else to help you. Using your forefinger and thumb, gather 3 or 4 strands and slightly twist the hair together. This will make cutting the hair sample much more accessible and keep all the hair strand in the same direction. Try to cut the hair sample as close to the scalp as possible, using one cut. If you do not have anyone to help you, using a mirror may help ensure you avoid injury.
My hair is dyed, permed or treated; will this affect the result?
The test is completed on the hair sample composition so that no hair processing will not affect the result. However, if you would like, you can provide hair from elsewhere on the body.
My hair is very short, or I am bald. Can I still complete the tests?
The hair sample does not have to be from the head; we can test hair from any part of the body, including leg, arm or chest.
Is there anything additional to pay?
If you’ve purchased one of our hair testing kits, you will have to pay the postage cost back to the processing centre, which then sends the sample to the UK. We try to keep our costs as low as possible (by not sending out physical hair testing kits) so that we can offer such a comprehensive test at the price offered. Please ensure the correct postage amount has been paid as we are not liable for any extra charges.

IgG’s (intolerance) are highly reactive to frequency/quantity of a food in the diet. The science behind IgG’s expression is based on its short term memory. Some scientists say 6 weeks, other say 3 months memory. If a food is totally removed from the diet for this amount of time, the food on being retested comes up non reactive. By keeping that food in the diet, the memory is still there and so is the reaction. IgE’s (allergy) on the other hand are different and one would have a reaction within 2 hours. Medicine is still working on the concept that tiny amount of IgE reactive foods given over a controlled time and amount may be the answer to allergies. We have 2 different Immunoglobulin we are dealing with here and they should not be confused.

In the unlikely occurrence of zero results on your allergy and intolerance test, we would recommend speaking to your GP to help you understand your symptoms and their root cause. Both allergies and intolerances are very different. Allergies are more severe and usually immediate. Allergies are also usually life long. However, an intolerance is less severe and can change with time. In addition to this, the symptoms can appear from 10 minutes to 48 hours after consuming the food. So any known allergies will not show upon this result.

We recommend you prick your middle or index finger after a brief walk, and following running your hand under a hot tap. If the blood still clots, you can start to massage your finger from the palm of your hand downwards towards your finger tip, to stimulate more blood to flow from the small puncture to collect onto the card.

In the case of allergy tests, we are checking the production of specific IgE antibodies against food and environmental allergens, while in the case of intolerances we are testing the production of specific IgG4 antibodies. Our testing are performed using ELISA technology, a globally recognised and documented technique and has been established for laboratory analysis for over 40 years being universally accepted as reliable and trustworthy.nnOur strict internal Quality Management Systems means that all samples within the laboratories have full traceability from the moment of receipt by way of the unique code allocated at the point of purchase. We use automated systems to track the sample throughout the laboratory based on the label attached to the submitted sample. Further labels are generated on receipt which allows for the identification of the unique sample through the entire testing process. Therefore there is no possibility that a sample could be mixed in the lab during processing. In addition, all of our release systems are fully automated only allowing for the release of results once all parameters have been met, if a sample was subjected to incorrect testing it would not meet the required parameters for release.nnEach of our individual test strips has inbuilt controls which allow us to assess the validity of the tests on an individual basis. Each strip is scanned and verified and should a control fail on any individual test that strip would be disregarded and retested. In addition to this, all of our test strips are manually validated as a second check to ensure there are no erroneous results prior to release.nn

The test results are then revealed and sent to you in an easy to understand form which is split into the different categories of food, non-food, nutrition and metals, depending on your results. We test for an 85% reaction rate as this is the level which will cause you to experience symptoms in your body.

There are a few types of medication that may stop your test from being accurate. Immunosuppressant medications can also affect the results of the testing, we advise that you check with our team prior to testing regarding medications. Antihistamines have been shown to affect results; we advise stopping antihistamine use for 3-5 days before taking your sample; however, we would recommend seeking advice from a medical professional before changing any medication.
